In the summer of 2013, the brotherhood of the Monastery of St. John the Theologian (located in northern Ohio) made the decision to move to Ukraine. As they desired that the monastic life which they had established since the foundation of their brotherhood be continued, with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion they transferred possession of their monastery to Holy Cross Monastery in West Virginia. It was reorganized as the Skete of St. John the Theologian, a dependency of Holy Cross. In January of 2020, St John's was officially placed as an independent monastery under the omophor of Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America, reverting to the status of a monastery rather than a skete.
According to the monastic tradition, church services are held each morning and evening. Vigil is held on Saturdays and the eves of church feast days beginning at 6:30pm, with Hours & Liturgy served at 9am on Sundays and feast days. If you wish to attend weekday services or to visit the store, please call ahead.
While the monastery welcomes pilgrims, please be aware that accommodations are limited and overnight stays are restricted to male visitors. Please contact the fathers as far in advance as possible in order to arrange a pilgrimage.
